How to achieve a building's fire resistance rating by selecting the correct panels?

May 20, 2023

"It's better to be safe than sorry," the old adage holds true when it comes to fire protection. Fire accidents will not only cause economic losses, but also property and life losses.
All buildings are prone to fire, and while there's no way to stop them from catching fire, increasing a building's fire resistance rating can increase your chances of survival and help make evacuations easier. Today, to keep buildings fire safe, it is important to have certain fire safety measures in place, such as sprinkler systems and smoke alarms, however, these measures sometimes fail.

So, what can we do?

Because we cannot live in a utopian world where there is zero chance of fire. Since fire hazards are real, our focus must be on fire safety. Concrete, drywall, fiberglass, melamine, bricks are some of the refractory materials that can prevent fire accidents from happening. Among them, another material that has recently become popular, especially in high-rise buildings, is FR-grade aluminum-plastic panels, also known as flame-retardant panels.

make your home fireproof
Choosing the right choice of ACP panels starts with choosing the correct ACP grade, which is non-combustible and increases fire spread time.

Types of FR-rated panels

A2+ level
Class A2+ means that it is non-combustible and can prevent the spread of fire. At Viva, our A2 rated ACCP panels (Aluminum Corrugated Composite Panels) have an aluminum honeycomb core so they won't melt or produce smoke in the event of a fire.

FR Class B
Flame Retardant Class B is known to have sufficient fire resistance. Flame retardant grade panels are composed of 70% mineral core and 30% polyethylene recycled core. The mineral core is made of magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide, which not only prevents it from catching fire, but the ingredients are free of halogens and inorganics.

French A2 level
FR A2 grade contains 90% mineral and 10% polyethylene recycled core. The A2 panels are powder coated with 100 micron PVDF making them highly non-flammable.

The benefits of fireproof board
highly durable
These panels are made of a special aluminum alloy that has been treated with a special coating to make it more fire resistant. This means they will not deform, crack or otherwise be damaged when exposed to high temperatures. Therefore, they can provide reliable protection for many years to come.

No droplet
The fire-retardant panels either contain a minimal polyethylene core or no thermoplastic core, which prevents the formation of molten droplets, which are largely the cause of panic among residents.

Will not disintegrate from the outside
Therefore, when water is sprayed on the burning facade with a hose, it does not decompose and fall, causing harm to residents and evacuation professionals. The façade is made of high-quality high-quality resin with a 100 micron adhesive film between the panels that will not decompose due to fire.

Does not produce toxic gas
Did you know that more people die from smoke than from fire? The fire causes asphyxiation, which prevents oxygen from entering the body, resulting in death. To curb this, aluminum panels are the right solution as flame retardant grade panels do not produce toxic fumes.
