Weathering steel - the material of the future for exterior construction

The rich crimson color and striking grain set COR-TEN steel apart from other wall cladding materials. Drawing inspiration from CORTEN steel, the shade is an ode to the original texture, with specifications similar to ACP sheets.

Materials are at the heart of construction, and architects have always preferred materials that are flexible and durable, which is why weathering steel and mild steel have always been the first choice of architects. It has not rusted because the panels have weathered and developed a patina on the sheets. Corten steel has a range of advantages and quite a few disadvantages. To name a few, the material is expensive, heavy and difficult to install, plus it takes months to panel the facade of a building.

That's why Viva has launched an aluminum veneer with a Corten Steel coating as the lampshade. In the blog, we discuss how it differs from other shades and why architects must incorporate it into modern architecture.

Benefits of Corten Steel Curtains
Create a retro aesthetic
The application of the weathering steel shade gives a serious hint of earthy tones, as the panels in tincture of weathering steel are reddish brown, casting the look of antique iron. Incorporating it into modern architecture adds a touch of vintage for a rustic yet warm look.

best sustainability
Corten steel is one of the ACP sheet shades that make the panels eco-friendly. When added as a facade, the panels provide thermal protection. It can reduce electricity bills because there are less heater and AC requirements due to internal temperature control. Additionally, the panels are made from recycled polyethylene cores and aluminum alloys, making them a sustainable construction choice.

make buildings fireproof
We provide FR-grade core weathering steel lampshades. Via has developed a new generation of fire-resistant aluminum-plastic panels that cater to fire protection. Ultra-modern technology and years of research and specific cores are manufactured that help with fire resistance. The core ingredients are magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, halogen-free inorganic. These panels have different fire resistance ratings, adding a high level of safety to the building, making it fire resistant.

metallic abstract shades
Corten steel belongs to the Metal Abstract series because the design and shades are similar to the metal abstract series. This weathering steel shade reflects the weathered beauty of the panels as they come into contact with atmospheric conditions or other metals.

The hue is a mix of reddish browns inspired by the slow rusting of iron or the weathering of steel, creating a layer of brown tones. Weathering steel is a brownish-orange steel that develops a self-protective layer, also known as "patina," over time. Inspired by shadows and textures, we created a mix of similar shades with the characteristics of aluminum composite panels, giving a rustic yet warm tone to the modern architecture.

The lampshade is a fully weathered replica of weathering steel. Similar to heavy rust on steel, brown shades have green undertones mixed with red.
